Kiwis in London #1....Nicole Clulee

Kiwi model, Nicole Clulee turned up today in one of the first shows on the London Fashion Week Calendar, that of newcomer, Eun Jeong, according to Hilary Alexander, writing for the UK Telegraph, "Jeong, attended Kent Institute and then Central Saint Martins, where she obtained her MA" (image from the telegraph, UK, Nicole on far left)

Chadwick's Girl, Georgie Wass for Prada??

Aussie-Gal, Georgie Wass, (represented by Chadwick Models in Australia), is about to become a Fashion- World "name", if reports on UK Grazia's site are correct!

They have reported that Georgie is to be an "exclusive" at the career- making Prada show in Milan!

Interestingly, Georgie has just switched London agencies, from FM London to the newly created Elite London, along with a huge swag of other FM models,(source Fashist) which seems to have made some people a little unhappy if this rant on the Fashist forums is anything to go by

Last week I posted about the trend back to brunettes.

The New York catwalks have been a sea of raven and brunette locks of all ethnicities, in response to criticisms over, what seemed to be, last season's mono-cultural, white-wash, catwalk casting.

Some of my favourites (that I mention here in this post http://chowderchunkybits.blogspot.com/2009/02/predictions-for-ny-fashion-week.html),Brunettes Stephanie Carta,and newcomer Selina Khan, have had good seasons so far... while brunette,teen-sensation, Monika Jagaciak, http://chowderchunkybits.blogspot.com/2009/02/slip-ups-with-birth-certificate.html has been the break-out star of the season.

And now, she has opened and closed the prestigious and career-making show, Calvin Klein, the label that launched the careers of Natalia Vodianova and Kate Moss.

Advance pictures also suggest that another of my favorites, V Supreme Model Winner, and fellow brunette, Addison Gill will follow her down the catwalk in an exclusive for Calvin Klein.

The big shock of this casting is that former Calvin Klein exclusive, and this season's campaign queen, (including campaigns for Calvin Klein), the beautiful, blonde Toni Garrn, did not walk the show!

Interestingly, when posting about Kate Sylvester's beautiful new Black Swan Campaign yesterday, I noticed that they had persuaded, Campaign girl, and natural blonde, Gina, to go dark for the campaign

Economic Forecasting through fashion.......

A few seasons back, when the economy was still running at full- tilt, Christopher Kane wowed audiences with his collection of body concious dresses, that referenced Alaia's designs popular in champagne-swilling-pre-stockmarket-crash 80s.

Conversely last season, he changed direction, showing sheer, chiffon- panelled frocks reminiscent of the post crash, late 80's / early 90's ...

My (admittedly facetious) question is; If economic pundits watched fashion more closely, could they have predicted a move back towards the economic conditions that we now face?

This was the question I was asking myself, as I watched Proenza Schouler's beautiful collection come in last night, I was struck by the 90's grunge vibe... a quilted black leatherette dress could have come straight from iconic 90's K' Rd boutique, Virus,... other beautiful sheer chiffon dresses overlaid with velvet forming gorgeous, organic shapes on the bodices and hems, were reminiscent of peices sold in Richmond Rd institution, Moa Clothing in the early to late 90s.

Similarly, at last year's New Zealand Fashion Week, 90s influences were all over the catwalk. Plaid, forever associated with 90s grunge rockers, Nirvana, was every where.
There were crop tops and ripped denim at Stolen Girlfriends Club and Brothel-Creeper shoes and virus-style dresses at Lonely Hearts to name a few....

Hoping this is a trend that won't blow up!!...

Last week, I wrote about the British "it" girls, Pixie & Peaches Geldoff and their friend, half-shaved-heiress Alice Dellal, conquering fashion, to the horror of many......

Today they received another blow, as fellow Brit girls, Agyness Deyn, Daisy Lowe and Eliza Cummings hit the catwalk at Anna Sui , with Agyness making her NY runway debut for this season, opening and closing the show.

British rock-star spawn, and current Marc Jacobs campaign muse, Daisy Lowe, also made an exclusive appearance at the show..... while fellow Brit, Eliza Cummings, who, along with her boyfriend Ash, poses provocatively on covers of the current Dazed and Confused, ID , and in the pages of Italian Vogue, also walked the show (in addition to her catwalk turns at Marc Jacobs and Rodarte.)

These shows are considered three of the most important shows in New York, and certainly, "the coolest". Anna Sui is also considered an important show, in terms of the fact that Stephen Meisel is said to informally cast it.

Marc Jacobs spoke after his show of wanting a return to individuality, as each each of the models in his show were given different, individual, hair and make-up looks.

Also, Katie Grand, talking about her new magazine, LOVE, says "Love the imperfect. You know it makes sense." Furthermore, in her editor's letter she writes. Clearly there is a movement back towards attitude and personality over perfection, and these girls are the first incarnations of that movement on the runway...
